Numerous travel guides and travel diaries (\u201cHand-book for travelers in Egypt\u201d Sir John Gardner Wilkinson \u2013 1847, \u201cThe English woman in Egypt\u201d Sophia Lane Poole \u2013 1844, \u201cFrom A Thousand Miles up the Nile\u201d Amelia Edwards \u2013 1873, \u201cFrom Egypt La Mort de Philae\u201d Piere Loti \u2013 1909) describe in great detail how such a Dahabeya river cruise was experienced from the point of view of the tourists of that time.<\/p>\n<p>In 1847, Sir John Gardner Wilkinson describes in a very practical way in his travel guide &#8220;Hand-book for travelers in Egypt&#8221; the extensive preparations that have to be made before setting off. Ships were first sunk to remove bugs and rats, then holes were patched and walls repainted. R.
